Nate and Tavari Johnson Earn NABC All-District Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The NABC has announced the 2024-25 NABC Division I All-District Teams, with a pair of Zips earning honors on Monday, March 18.
Nate Johnson was selected to the East District First Team while Tavari Johnson was selected to the Second Team.
Nate Johnson was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, an All-MAC First Team Selection and an All-MAC Defensive Team Selection. N. Johnson was also named to the MAC All-Tournament Team while being named the MAC Tournament MVP.
He became the first player in program history to be named both the MAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season and the first player in the MAC since Bonzi Wells (Ball State, 1998).
In the MAC Tournament, Nate averaged 18.7 points, which included a career-high 31 points against Toledo, 5.33 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
N. Johnson led the Zips in the regular season with 13.5 points and 1.9 steals per game. He averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.5 blocks per game while scoring in double-figures a team-leading 23 times and scoring 15 or more points in 11 games. Johnson led the team in assists nine times and recorded five games of five or more assists. He led the Zips in rebounding eight times and was also named to the All-MAC First Team and was named the MVP of the Akron Basketball Classic earlier in the season.
Tavari Johnson was an All-MAC First Team selection while being named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.
The junior guard was second on the team in scoring (12.8) while leading the Zips in assists (4.0) per game.
Tavari averaged 14.7 points per game in the MAC Tournament while adding 3.33 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 rebounds per game.
T. Johnson recorded a team-high seven games of 20 or more points this season while ranking second on the Zips for double-figure scoring games (20). He led the team in games with five or more assists (11) and led the team in scoring 11 times in the regular season.
The Zips battle the Arizona Wildcats in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on March 21 in Seattle, Wash.
