Zips Men's Basketball Honored By State House and Summit County

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Zips men's basketball team was honored this month at the State House in Columbus, Ohio, and the Summit County Court House in Akron, Ohio.
The Zips were honored for their tremendous accomplishments this season which saw the Blue and Gold win the Mid-American Conference Regular Season title and MAC Tournament Title behind a program-best 28-7 overall record.
Akron set a program record for wins in a season (28) while becoming just the second team in MAC history to go 17-1 in the modern 18-game format.
The Zips earned a bevy of postseason awards, with Nate Johnson being named the MAC Player of the Year and MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Shammah Scott earned the MAC Sixth Man of the Year, while Sharron Young was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team, Tavari Johnson was a first-team All-MAC selection and Isaiah Gray was named an All-MAC Honorable Mention.
John Groce collected his second  MAC Coach of the Year award in 2024-25, while being named the Hugh Durham Mid-Major National Coach of the Year for the first time in program history.
