19 Zips Earn Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field earned 19 selections when the Mid-American Conference released its 2025 Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday (May 14).
In all, 166 women's and 43 men's student-athletes from 12 conference institutions were honored including sophomore Majid Abuaun (Rocky River, Ohio), seniors Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) and Kayla Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.), sophomore Mason Birch (Strongsville, Ohio), senior Nighyah Carthen (Twinsburg, Ohio), redshirt seniors Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) and Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio), sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio), senior Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.), juniors Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) and Benjamin Hudak (Tallmadge, Ohio), sophomores Ryan Kamperman (Salem, Ohio) and Jessica Mason (Holland, Ohio), senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria), sophomores Rebecca Strunk (Mount Perry, Ohio), Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) and Christopher Vance (Parma, Ohio) and seniors Ruth Webb (Akron, Ohio) and Justin Zapotoczny (Navarre, Ohio).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport and have been at residence at their school for one year. True freshman and first-year transfer student-athletes are not eligible.
