Akron Golf Finishes Runner-Up at Butler Fall Invitational, Hezri Claims Top Spot

Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Akron Zips golf fired a 290 (+10) final 18-hole round to finish runner-up at the Butler Fall Invitational, while Maisarah Hezri finished atop the players' leaderboard, forcing a three-hole playoff on Tuesday at the Highland Country Club (Par 70, 6,040 yards).

As a team, the Zips registered a second-best 289-296-290 -875 (+35) tournament total, finishing 1st in Par 5 scoring (5.10), 2nd in Par 4 scoring (4.22) and 5th in Par 3 scoring (3.32).

Hezri finished runner-up with an even-par 70 final round performance after battling in three playoff holes for the top spot. Hezri completed the 54-hole event with a 69-72-70 - 211 (+1) tournament total and tied for first overall. She posted 13 par scores coupled with three birdies, a bogey and a double bogey for the final round even slate total. Hezri entered the final round ranked second overall after posting scores of 1-under par 69 and 2-over par 72, recording 27 pars and four birdies with five bogeys in 36 holes. For the tournament, she ranked 2nd in Par 4 scoring (4.03), 3rd in Par 5 scoring (4.83) and 8th in Par 3 scoring (3.08) with 40 par scores, seven birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Also finishing in the Top 10 was Goethe Na Songkhla with an even-par 70 final round effort, climbing 18 spots on the leaderboard to land in the 9th spot overall. Na Songkhla carded rounds of 72 (+2), 78 (+8) and 70 (E) for a 220 (+10) tournament total. She finished 1st in Par 5 scoring (4.67). During the final round, Na Songkhla registered four birdies and completed the tournament with seven.

Two additional Akron golfers ranked inside the Top 20 as Sohniya Chandra Mohan and
Kaitlin Kormuth tied for 18th overall on the player board with 223 (+13) tournament totals.. Chandra Mohan posted rounds of 72 (+2), 76 (+6) and 75 (+5), while Kormuth, competing as an individual, carded 74 (+4), 74 (+4) and 75 (+5) scores.

Rounding out the scoring for Akron were Hridhika Vora and Emily Liptak. Vor finished 7th in Par 4 scoring (4.14) en route to a 25th place finish with a 76-74-75 – 225 (+15) and Liptak registered an 80-74-78 – 232 (+22) tally.

The Zips are scheduled to be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13-14 at NCR Country Club for the Flyer Invitational hosted by Dayton.
