McClimans, Moran and Allen Lead Zips in Strong Performance

LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 15 Akron rifle team opened the 2026-27 campaign with a strong showing on the road, falling to No. 4 Nebraska, 4,723-4,673, in Lincoln.
Nebraska's 4,723 aggregate score marked the seventh-highest team performance in program history, while the Zips were highlighted by several impressive individual performances in both smallbore and air rifle.
Senior Logan McClimans led the way for Akron in smallbore, firing a 584 to finish fifth overall. The performance established a new career-high for McClimans, improving his previous personal best by two points.
Sophomore Kathleen Moran joined McClimans in the 580s, recording a 581 to give the Zips another strong performance in the smallbore competition.
Freshman Madison "Maddie" Allen made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, leading Akron in air rifle with a 592 out of 600 to finish sixth overall. Allen was the lone Zip to break the 590 mark in the discipline.
Sophomore Matt Kimball followed with a 589, while Moran added a 588 and McClimans recorded a 586 to round out Akron's top four air rifle scores. The Zips combined for a team air rifle score of 2,355.
Akron now turns its attention to its lone home competition of the fall semester as the Zips welcome the U.S. Naval Academy to the Marksmanship Training Facility in Schrank Hall South on Saturday, Oct. 3. Competition is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
