AKRON, Ohio — The Akron men's soccer team will hit the road to face Villanova on Saturday, October 31 at 1 p.m. It marks just the second day game the Zips have played all year and first since their 2-0 victory at DePaul back on October 2.
Akron (9-1-4) checked in at No. 6 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll and was ranked as high as No. 4 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll. The Zips are coming off a huge 2-1 victory over then-No. 14 Xavier, 2-1, in which Matthew Paiva scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining. Additionally, Farrel Ngongang was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following his game-winning assist in the match as well as two goals in the previous match against Cleveland State.
Villanova (5-7-3) is still searching for its first BIG EAST victory of the year, while all five of their wins have come at home. Three players have scored four goals each, and Alex Yagudayev is second in the country in saves with 108 and has logged three shutouts — all three of which came in the first four matches of the season.
The Zips have won both all-time matches against the Wildcats, winning 3-2 in their 2024 meeting and 2-0 in 2016 in the NCAA Tournament.
