COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Akron turned in a strong opening-night performance Friday at the Ohio State Winter Invite, highlighted by a relay victory and multiple individual wins at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Akron opened the finals session by capturing the women's 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 28.94 seconds. The quartet of Ada Szwabinska, Callie Parkes, Brienne Trumpower and Felicia Klintemar edged the field with a time just off the NCAA provisional standard (1:28.78).
The Zips continued to shine in individual events.

Abbey Cronin led a 1-2 finish for Akron in the women's 400 individual medley, touching first in 4:27.60. Carrie Caniglia followed in 4:32.44 to secure the runner-up spot and give the Zips a dominant showing in the event.

Claire Cox added another victory in the women's 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:01.17 after entering the final with the top preliminary time. Cox controlled the race from the start and held off the field by more than two seconds.

Akron also earned a runner-up finish in the women's 100 butterfly, where Hannah Trainer placed second in 54.84. In the women's 200 freestyle, Cora Spetz finished fourth in 1:55.36 to round out Akron's individual A-final appearances.
