Akron Falls to Miami (OH)

OXFORD, OH --The Akron women's basketball team knocked down 10-of-23 attempts from three-point range, shooting 43.5 percent from deep in a 74-56 loss to the Miami (OH) RedHawks on the road Saturday.
The Zips (7-22, 4-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Liz Murphy, who had 15 points. Shaena Brew added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists and Izzy Callaway helped out with 11 points and two steals.
The Akron offense made hay from deep, knocking down 10 threes on 23 attempts. Murphy hit five treys for the Zips in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 16-7, Akron went on a 5-0 run with 1:29 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Murphy, to narrow its deficit to 16-12, a score that would hold for the rest of the period.
The Zips continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-21 halftime deficit.
After intermission, Akron cut its deficit to 43-28 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Callaway, to trim its deficit to 43-34 with 5:37 to go in the third. Miami (OH) countered and stretched its lead to 54-39 heading into the fourth. Akron knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 18 total points.
Miami (OH) kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 74-48 advantage before Akron went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Brew's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 74-56 with 38 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Akron fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.
