Zips Open Series with EMU with 7-3 Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. -Â Four Akron players recorded multiple hits to help lead the Zips over the Eastern Michigan Eagles 7-3 Friday.
Easton Amundson recorded two hits, a home run, a run and RBI. Brody Chrisman has two hits, a double, a run and an RBI. Blake Bowen also recorded a two-hit performance with an RBI while Kelton Phillips had a triple among his two hits.
Brady Bowen (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (10-10, ). The right-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Floyd McKenna also pitched well, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Akron got an RBI single from freshman Brody Chrisman, scoring freshman Kelton Phillips from third base.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Zips put runs on the scoreboard once again. Akron picked up a run on freshman Easton Amundson's two-out solo home run off of junior John Carmichael, which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.
Akron kept Eastern Michigan scoreless before building their lead to 4-1 in the seventh inning. The Zips produced a two-run frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of freshman Tucker Biehl.
The Eagles fought back, closing the gap to 4-3 until Akron added some insurance in the eighth. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Phillips, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of Akron.
The Zips kept Eastern Michigan off the board before expanding their lead to 7-3 the following inning. Akron brought home a pair, with one run driven in by freshman Blake Bowen's single. The score remained 7-3 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
