Multiple Homers From Szymczak and Chrisman Lead Akron Over Ball State, 7-6

MUNCIE, Ind. -Â Mitchel Szymczak and Brody Chrisman each hit two home runs to help propel the Akron Zips over the Ball State Cardinals 7-6 on Sunday.
Szymczak added a walk and four RBIÂ to his two homer day and Chrisman supplemented his own two big flies with a double, a walk and three RBIÂ for the Zips. Brady Bowen also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk.
Trieg Matthews (3-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (15-20, 6-12). The left-hander went four innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Floyd McKenna also pitched well, going three shutout innings while allowing three hits to earn the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron picked up three runs in the frame.
The Cardinals then rallied to score two runs and take a 4-3 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. Szymczak came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the score level at 4-4.
That 4-4 tie turned into a 5-4 Akron lead in the fifth.
The Cardinals then tied up the game at five before Akron fought back to retake their advantage in the seventh inning. Kelton Phillips and Chrisman came in to score the two Zips runs in the frame, bringing the score to 7-5 in favor of Akron. Ball State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Zips still held on for the 7-6 win.
