Griffith Strikes Out Eight, Chrisman Records Three Hits in Loss to NIU

AKRON, Ohio - Elijah Griffith struck out eight Huskies, while Brody Chrisman collected three hits in a 10-8 loss to Northern Illinois on Friday.
At the plate, the Zips were paced by Easton Amundson, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double, a home run and an RBI. Chrisman compiled three hits on four trips to the plate while scoring twice. Kelton Phillips drove in two runs and Prince DeBoskie putt together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
John Allen (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Akron (16-22, 6-13). Griffith started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking three and striking out eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Akron got an RBI single from Blake Bowen, scoring Brody Chrisman from second base.
The Huskies then tied the ballgame at one before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. DeBoskie came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.
Akron held Northern Illinois scoreless before building their lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of .
Akron lost the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 6-3. The Zips scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Phillips, bringing the score to 7-6 in favor of Akron.
Northern Illinois then mounted a comeback, taking a 10-7 lead heading into the ninth, when the Zips cut that deficit to 10-8. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Brady Bowen. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
