Blake Bowen Homers Twice in Akron's loss to Miami (OH)

AKRON, Ohio -Â Blake Bowen put together an outstanding outing at the plate Friday, hitting two home runs, but the Akron Zips fell to the Miami (OH) RedHawks 13-3.
Bowen went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with two RBIs. Kyle McConachie added to Bowen's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2 for 3 with a double. Kelton Phillips also chipped in for the Zips, going 2-for-4.
Elijah Griffith (3-4) got the ball to start for Akron (21-33, 11-21) and took the loss. Taylor Bednar was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 9-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. McConachie came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips kept the RedHawks off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fourth. Akron picked up a run on Bowen's one-out solo home run off of Clayton Burke, which tightened the RedHawks lead to 9-2.
Miami (OH) expanded their lead to 11-2 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 11-3 in the sixth. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Miami (OH) added two runs to their tally on the way to a 13-3 final.
