Eight Akron Football Players Named to 2026 Phil Steele’s Preseason All-MAC Teams

AKRON, Ohio - Eight University of Akron football players have been named to Phil Steele's 2026 preseason All-MAC Team, the magazine announced Wednesday, June 10.
Earning preseason first-team All-MAC honors were senior RB Jordan Gant (Lakeland, Fla.) and sophomore WR Marcel Williams (Hollywood, Fla.).
Named to the preseason second-team All-MAC was junior Cyrus Durham (Atherton, Calif.) and senior Joseph Castle (North Huntingdon, PA.).
Rounding out the 2026 Phil Steele list were graduate Reese Poffenbarger (Middletown, Md.), sophomore Kyan Mason (Cleveland, Ohio), junior Aamii Branch (Forney, Texas) and sophomore Matthew Schramm (Dublin, Ohio)
Under fourth-year head coach Joe Moorhead, Akron opens the 2026 season with a road game at Wake Forest on Spt. 3 at 7:00 p.m. before welcoming Robert Morris to InfoCision Stadium -Summa Health Field for the Zips' home opener on Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
