Akron Finishes Runner-Up at YSU Roseann Schwartz Invitational

Hermitage, PA. – The Akron Zips women's golf team finished runner-up at the season opening event, the Roseann Schwartz Invitational Presented by Chick-fil-A Tiffany Square Plaza, hosted by Youngstown State at the Avalon at Buhl Park Country Club (Par 70) on Monday (Aug. 31).
The Akron Zips carded rounds of 298 and 290 for a 588 (+28) team score after 36 holes as Sohniya Chandra Mohan led the scoring efforts with 145 (+5). Chandra Mohan fired an opening 18-hole round of 2-over par 72 and followed with a 3-over par 73 for the 145 tournament total. Chandra Mohan finished tied for fourth overall en route to registering six birdies and 20 par scores.
Goethe Na Songkhla followed in scoring for the Zips, recording rounds of 76 (+5) and 71 (+1) for a 147 Tournament total. Na Songkhla was nearly flawless in the second 18-hole round, recording 17 par scores and one bogey. For the tournament, she carded 26 pars and two birdies, finishing tied for seventh overall on the players' leaderboard.
Three more golfers landed in the Top 25 as Kaitlin Kormuth (t-17th), Amara Montoya (t-18th) and Thitirat Silakham (t-25th). Kormuth fired 76-75 - 151 (+11) while Montoya and Silakham made their collegiate debuts. Montoya was 11-over par on the initial 18-hole round and responded with a 1-over effort on the second 18 holes, (+12, 81-71 – 152 ) while Silakham posted rounds74 (+4) and 80 (+10) for a 154 (+14).
Katrin Horn Danielsdottir rounded out the scoring with a 171 (+31).
The Zips return to the course in State College, Pa. for the Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course hosted by Penn State on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 7-8.
