Chandra Mohan’s Hole-in-One Highlights Opening Day at Rocket Classic

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team sits fourth overall following the opening 36 holes of the Rocket Classic at Highland Meadows Golf Club (Par 71, 6,118 yards), highlighted by a memorable hole-in-one from Sohniya Chandra Mohan during Monday's second round.
Akron posted rounds of 302 (+18) and 307 (+23) to finish the opening day with a 609 (+41) team total.
Chandra Mohan paced the Zips with a 36-hole score of 148 (+6) and enters Tuesday's final round tied for second on the individual leaderboard.
She opened the tournament with a stellar 1-under par 70, recording 11 pars and four birdies. Chandra Mohan followed with a second-round 78 (+7), with the highlight of the day coming at the par-3 15th hole, where she aced the hole with a 6-iron for the first hole-in-one of the tournament.
Amara Montoya joined Chandra Mohan inside the Top 10, finishing the day tied for fifth with a 149 (+7) total. Montoya opened with an 8-over par 79 before delivering Akron's low round of the afternoon, firing a 1-under par 70 in the second round.
Goethe Na Songkhla and Thitirat Silakham followed in the scoring for the Zips. Na Songkhla sits tied for 16th after rounds of 75 (+4) and 79 (+8) for a 154 (+12) total, while Silakham is tied for 30th following rounds of 78 (+7) and 80 (+9) for a 158 (+16) ledger.
Kaitlin Kormuth rounded out Akron's lineup with back-to-back rounds of 83 (+12), finishing the opening day at 166 (+24).
Competing individually, Katrin Horn Danielsdottir improved by seven strokes between rounds, following an opening-round 83 (+12) with a second-round 76 (+5) to finish the day at 159 (+17).
