Women’s Basketball Announces 2026-27 Nonconference Schedule

AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's basketball team has released its nonconference schedule ahead of the 2026-27 season. The squad's conference slate was released back on August 12.
The Zips will start their campaign out by hosting South Alabama at James A. Rhodes Arena as part of the annual MAC-Sun Belt Conference Challenge on Monday, November 2 at 6 p.m.
Following their game against the Jaguars, the Zips will embark on four consecutive road matchups with George Mason (Nov. 5), Xavier (Nov. 9), Mercyhurst (Nov. 14) and West Virginia (Nov. 17) before heading home to face Robert Morris on Friday, November 20.
Another three-game road trip will start with Youngstown State (Nov. 24) before Louisville (Nov. 27) and Ohio State (Dec. 2). The Cardinals and Buckeyes each finished last season ranked in the top 15.
Akron will play host to four consecutive nonconference games (Yale, Dec. 6; Cleveland State, Dec. 14; Duquesne, Dec. 17; and Lake Erie, Dec. 21) before starting Mid-American Conference play in January.
Additionally, the Zips will play one road game on Saturday, February 6 in the MAC-Sun Belt Conference Challenge at an opponent still to be determined.
"We're excited about the schedule we've put together and the different challenges it will present as we prepare for MAC play," head coach Ryan Gensler said. "We'll have opportunities to test ourselves in difficult road environments while also bringing a number of quality opponents to the 'JAR' [James A. Rhodes Arena]. Our nonconference schedule features several programs coming off postseason appearances. Most importantly, we're excited to play in front of our fans. We want the 'JAR' to be a place our community is excited to come to, and we can't wait to have Zips fans in the stands supporting this team throughout the season."
