Akron Volleyball Falls to Toledo in MAC Home Opener

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron volleyball team battled Toledo through three competitive sets Friday night, but the Zips fell to the Rockets, 3-0, 25-17, 25-20, 26-24, in Mid-American Conference action at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Akron moved to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in MAC play, while Toledo improved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action. The Zips recorded 36 kills, 34 assists, 51 digs and six team blocks in the three-set match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron and Toledo traded points early in the opening set before the Rockets gradually pulled away. The Zips remained within striking distance at 13-17 before Toledo closed the set on an 8-4 run to claim a 25-17 victory.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Akron battling throughout the frame. The Zips trailed 10-12 before Toledo extended its advantage. Akron continued to fight and pulled within 20-17 following a Lauren Wilson kill, but the Rockets scored five of the final eight points to take the set, 25-20, and move ahead 2-0.
Akron saved its strongest push for the third set. The Zips battled Toledo through a back-and-forth frame that featured 16 tie scores and four lead changes. Akron rallied from a 19-20 deficit to take a 22-21 lead, then reached a 24-24 tie before Toledo scored the final two points to secure a 26-24 victory and complete the sweep.

- Aeschliman leads Akron: Jordyn Aeschliman paced the Zips with 12 kills on 31 attacks, hitting .258 for the match.
- Balanced attack: Delaney Gash, Lauren Wilson, Lyndi Wolf and Chidera Ozoh each added five kills for Akron.
