Chenara Wilson enters her first season for the Akron Zips women’s basketball program in 2026-27.

Prior to her time at Akron, Wilson spent two seasons on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the Cleveland State women's basketball team. She joined the Cleveland State staff with 16 years of collegiate coaching experience, including stops at Slippery Rock University (SRU), Mercyhurst North East (MUNE) and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).

At CSU, Wilson helped guide the Vikings to a 26-10 overall record and 13-7 Horizon League mark, advancing to the semifinal of the league tournament and winning two games in the WNIT before falling to Arkansas State University in the Great Eight (2025-26). CSU had similar success in her first season, recording a 27-10 overall record and 14-6 league showing while advancing to the semifinal of the Horizon League Tournament and the WNIT’s Fab 4 before falling to Buffalo.

During her time at SRU, Wilson spent seven seasons as an assistant coach and one season as the acting head coach – in which she helped the program post its first winning campaign in over 20 years.

Wilson arrived at SRU from MUNE (NJCAA) where she was the head coach at for three years, earning District Coach of the Year honors and leading the team to the National Tournament for just the second time in program history.

In addition, Wilson spent five years at Tri-C (NJCAA), where she was an assistant coach.

Wilson was a 2007 graduate of Cleveland State University, was a member of the women’s basketball team helping turn the program around into an eventual NCAA Tournament team.
