Jessica Jenkins is in her third season as assistant coach on the Akron women's basketball staff during the 2025-26 campaign after being named to post on April 12, 2023.
Jenkins serves as the Zips' Recruiting Coordinator organizing all recruiting efforts for Akron. She coaches the Zips' point guards/guards, while overseeing Akron’s Offense and Special Teams Offense.
“I have seen first-hand Jessica’s work ethic as a player and to now see it passed on to the players, she coaches is amazing,” Akron head coach Ryan Gensler commented. “Her relationship-based approach in recruiting will be most welcomed back in her home state and beyond and I am thrilled to have Jessica on our staff.”
Jenkins came to Akron after spending seven seasons under her former college coach, Jim Crowley, at Providence College as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She was responsible for recruiting Big East Freshman of the Year Mary Baskerville and Big East All-Rookie Team performer Kylee Sheppard. Jenkins was also instrumental in the player development of All-Big East performer, Jovanna Nogic during her time at Providence.
Prior to her arrival at Providence, Jenkins served as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure during the 2015-16 campaign where she helped guide the Bonnies to a 24-8 overall record, including a 12-4 mark in the Atlantic 10. St. Bonaventure earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament en route to advancing to the second round as a No. 10 seed with a 65-54 victory over seventh-seeded Oklahoma State in the first round.
Jenkins had an impressive playing career at St. Bonaventure (2008-12), where she directed the Bonnies to four-consecutive post-season appearances and an overall record of 98-37 (41-15 Atlantic 10).
A First-Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection as a senior, she led the league in three-point field goals and averaged 13.9 points per game. The Bonnies set a school record with 31 wins and went undefeated in the Atlantic 10 (14-0), to claim the Atlantic 10 regular-season title. Jenkins also was one of 30 finalists for Naismith Player of the Year that season after helping to lead the Bonnies to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
A Marion, Ohio native, Jenkins is the Atlantic 10’s all-time leader in three-pointers, with 338, en route to scoring 1,441 career points. She also holds the top two single-season marks for three-pointers, with 110 (2011-12) and 100 (2010-11) triples, respectively.
After graduating from St. Bonaventure with a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a sport management minor, Jenkins went on to a successful professional career. She played for Keflavik in Iceland her first season leading them to a league championship and earning Guard of the Year, for the Cardiff Archers in England for two seasons and one season with the Western Port Steelers in Australia. Jenkins holds a degree in strength and conditioning from Cardiff Met University.
