Zips Register Four First-Place Swimming Finishes

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Akron swimming and diving team fell to Miami University on Friday afternoon by a score of 175-114 in the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center, despite strong performances from junior diver Carla McNamara and junior swimmer Catherine Carr.
Swimming and diving now hold an overall record of 2-4 and a 0-3 record within the Mid-American Conference.
Carr led the Zips in the swimming matches with her first-place finishes in the 200 Butterfly (2:05.28) and 200 IM (2:10.56), while also earning a third place finish 200 Backstroke (2:06.62). Emily Reamer also competed in the 200 Backstroke, and finished in first place with a time of 1:41.43.
Akron benefitted from the spectacular diving of McNamara, who placed first in both the three-meter and one-meter diving. She finished with a final score of 289.35 in the three-meter and a 290.85 in the one-meter. Amy Dorow racked up a second place finish behind McNamara in the one-meter fiving event with a final score of 250.27.
The Zips received a boost from the 400 Relay team, as they registered a first-place finish in the event.
Hannah Raspopovich placed second in the 50-yard free style by touching the wall at 24.26, while Ashley Drazkowski and Erin Seiler registered third place finishes in the 500 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly, respectively.
The Akron Zips next meet will be on Saturday, Jan. 26 at home in the Ocasek Natatorium, where the Zips will matchup at 1 p.m. with the Cleveland State Vikings.
