Swimming and Diving Falls to Miami (Ohio) in Home Opener

AKRON, Ohio – In the first dual meet of the season, The University of Akron women's swimming and diving team fell to Miami University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 187.5-109.5 at the Ocasek Natatorium for the first home competition of the 2013-14 season.
The Zips started strong in the first event of the afternoon, the 200-yard medley relay. UA's relay team of Catherine Carr, Kendra Colby, Erin Seiler, and Hannah Raspopovich had the top time of 1:46.28 in the race.
Seiler, a sophomore, picked up the lone individual first place finish for the Akron swimmers. Seiler notched a time of 57.58 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Catherine Carr also registered three second-place times to go along with the relay team win. Carr touched the wall second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.82), 200-yard backstroke (2:24.76), and the 200 IM (2:06.83).
In the final event of the day, Akron posted a first and third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Taylor Hart, Kelsey Ferrante, Ashley Niznik and Raspopovich touched the wall first, while Ashley Drazkowski, Mary Kallinicou, Emily Poland and Seiler finished third.
In the diving pool, senior Carla McNamara placed first in 3-meter diving with a final score of 282.52. Fellow diver Amy Dorow had a third-place score of 245.25 in the 1-meter diving event.
Akron will look ahead to next week's dual meet at Eastern Michigan, which is set to begin on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
Other races of note…
- Raspopovich placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.97, and third in the 100-yard freestyle at 54.47.
- Niznik picked up a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (53.99).
- Kendra Colby and Amanda Lawson finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke.
