Columbia, Mo. – For a second time in her career, sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) fired career best low-round score en route to leading the Zips to a 10th place at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday. During the second round of the Johnie Imes Invitational, Nicholson fired a 3-under par 69, while the Zips carded a pair of 298 (+10) rounds for a 596 (+20) team total.
"The team played consistently throughout the day," Zips' head coach Jenny King said. "We left some putts out there, but if we stay patient with the course tomorrow, we feel like those putts will definitely drop. The course is in great shape, so the birdies are there for the taking."
Nicholson is currently three strokes off the lead and in a five-way tie for fifth overall at 72, 69 – 141 (-3). She recorded pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys along with 14 pars for an even scorecard, and came back with five birdies, two bogeys and 11 pars for the 3-under ledger.
Junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) is second in scoring at 74, 75 - 149 (+5), while senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) carded a pair of 153 (+9) scores. Sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) rounded out the team scoring with a 156 (+12) two-round total.
Mizzou owns a five-stroke advantage over the field with a 574 (-2) team total, while East Tennessee State's ELoy Hee Ying, Troy's Fatima Cano, and Mizzou's Emma Allen are all tied for first at 66, 72 -138 (-6).
