Columbia, Mo. – After an even-par final round, sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) moved into a stalemate for second place at the 9th annual Johnie Imes Invitational on Tuesday. The Zips placed 12th overall in team scoring with a 898 (+34) team score.
"We are coming home with a good learning experience, Zips' head coach Jenny King said. Â "We are happy with our consistency over the course of the tournament. We are proud of Danielle's strong tournament to finish second in a tough field. It should be a big confidence builder moving forward."
Nicholson opened the 54-hole event at The Club at Old Hawthorn with an even-par score and followed with a second-career 69 (-3) stroke total. She ended with a 72 (E) final round, carding 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys. During the final 18-holes, Nicholson climbed three spots on the leaderboard.
Following Nicholson in scoring were junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.). Both, Her and Wentworth ranked 46th on the leaderboard with 226 (+10) 54-hole totals. Her fired rounds of 74 (+2), 75 (+3), and 77 (+5), while Wentworth 75 (+3), 78 (+6), and 73 (+1).
Rounding out the Zips scoring were while senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) and sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) with 233 (+17) and 236 (+22) totals, respectively.
The Zips will be back on the course in Youngstown, Ohio at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. The 54-hole event will be played at the Youngstown Country Club.
