Akron, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team will tee-off locally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11, at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University, a tournament the Zips won a year ago.
"We are looking forward to playing close to home at YSU's event, Zips' head coach Jenny King said. "It was a quick turnaround between events, but perpetration went well, our team looks ready to compete."
The two-day, 36-hole event will be played at the Youngstown Country Club on its demanding but fair contoured fairways that includes subtle undulations and heavy but well-cropped roughs of blue grass. The strategically placed bunkers include a meandering creek and growing tree lines that also come into play that make every round a challenge for golfers at every level. The club has hosted the Ohio Open Championship, the Western Open, the Women's Ohio Amateur Championship, an LPGA Open Qualifier, and a Men's U.S. Open Qualifier.
The six-team field includes host Youngstown, Akron, Cleveland State, Oakland, Niagara, and St. Francis. Monday's round is a shotgun start, beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by the final round start on 9:a.m. on Tuesday.
Akron's starting lineup consists of the Zips' scoring leader and reigning Mid-American Conference champion sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio), senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico), junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.), sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio), and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.). In addition, junior Mallory Etcheberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) will be competing as an individual.
