LEDBETTER, Ky. –Defending Mid-American Conference champion sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) carded a final round 2-under par 70 to lead the Akron women's golf team to a third place finish (908, +44) at Drake Creek Invitational on Tuesday.
"It was a great way to start the season," head coach Jenny King said. "We followed our game plan and played steady golf. We did a better job of making putts, which helped our scoring. As a team we were able to record some low round scores, and we are looking forward to making some adjustments in preparation for Michigan State."
During the final round at the 6,178-yard, par-72 Drake Creek Golf Course, Akron recorded its second 298 (+10) team score of the tournament en route to the 908 (+44) tournament total. Akron opened the tournament with scores of 298 (+10) and 312 (+24), finishing tied for third overall with host Murray State.
