Women's Golf Tied for Fourth After Opening Round of the Rio Verde Invitational

Rio Verde, Ariz. – The Akron Zips women's golf team fired a 306 (+18) team score en route to a three-way tie for fourth place after the opening round at the Rio Verde Invitational on Friday.
The Zips are currently tied with Northern Arizona and Wichita State, while Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan hold a four-stroke advantage (300, +12), and are tied for second overall. Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) controls the team leaderboard with a 295 (+7) team tally.
Sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the Zips' scoring at Rio Verde Country Club's White Wing golf course that spans 6,215 yards. Nicholson opened the 54-hole event with a 1-over 73 to be tied for sixth overall on the leaderboard. Nicholson recorded 11 pars, three birdies, and four bogeys.
Junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) followed with a 75 (+2) 18-hole round, and sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) added a 78 (+6) performance to the Zips' tournament total. Her ranks No. 8 overall after posting 11 pars, three birdies, three bogeys, and a double bogey, while Dull is tied at 37th with 10 pars and two birdies with four bogeys and two doubles.
Senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) rounded out the team scoring with 81 (+9) and 84 (+12) scores, respectively, while junior Mallory Etcheberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) also carded an 84 (+12) as an individual.
The second round of the Rio Verde Invitational is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. ET. Akron is scheduled to tee off from holes No. 3-5.
