Akron, Ohio – After a two-week break from competition, the University of Akron women's golf team traveled to Dallas, Texas for the Bradley Spring Break Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is scheduled to be played at Brookhaven Country Club, a par-71 course that stretches 5,921 yards.
"We are excited to be back on the road competing again after 14 days at home practicing and preparing," head coach Jenny King said. "This is a new course for us, so we know how important our practice round will be. We will be ready to go once we commit to a good game plan and put it into action."
The 10-team field includes host Bradley, Akron, Arkansas State, Drake, Illinois State, Indiana State, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, UT-Dallas, and Wichita State.
The tournament format features 36-holes of continuous play on Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday's final 18-hole round is also a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m. Fans can follow the action with live scoring available on BirdieFire.
Akron will open the tournament on holes 7-9 as sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) and junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) will tee off on the seventh hole. Sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) and senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) are scheduled for the eighth hole flights, while freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) starts the tournament on the ninth hole.
Akron is coming off an 11th place finish at the Rio Verde Invitational (918, +54) where Nicholson led the Zips' scoring by earning medalist honors. She fired an even-par 72 final round to win the Rio Verde Invitational. The win marks Nicholson's second medalist performance of the year. Nicholson fired a tournament-best 1-under par 215-stroke 54-hole total.
Her and Dull followed with 232 (+16) total and 234 (+18) scores, respectively. Velasco-Villanueva and Wentworth added scores 240 (+24) and 247 (+31) scores.
