Akron Golf to Play Kingsmill Intercollegiate

Akron, Ohio – The Akron women's golf team travels to Williamsburg, Va. For the 2017 Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, March 27-28, hosted by the College of William & Mary.
"We've heard so many great things about Kingsmill, and we are really looking forward to playing here the next couple of days," head coach Jenny King said. "The LPGA plays here in the summer and it will be a nice test to play on the same course as the pros. It will definitely be another experience that makes us better and helps us prepare for the MAC Championship in less than a month away."
The 54-hole event will be played at the par-72 River Course at Kingsmill Resort that stretches 6,043 yards. On Monday, the tournament begins with an 8:15 shotgun start with continuous play through 36 holes. Tuesday's final round is also scheduled for an 8:15 shotgun start. The 22-team field features two Mid-American Conference teams, Akron and Ball State, while the rest of the field includes host William & Mary, Bethune-Cookman, Central Connecticut, Delaware, Fairleigh Dickinson, Illinois State, James Madison, Lehigh, Longwood, Marshall, UMKC, Navy, Penn, Radford, Richmond, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (Pa.), St. John's, Towson, and Wagner.
Akron's starting five includes sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio), Junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.), sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio), junior Mallory Etcheberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.).
Akron is coming off a sixth place showing with a 916 (+52) 54-hole tournament total at the MSU Spring citrus Challenge, while Her and Nicholson landed in the Top 10.
Her posted finished in the Top 5 after every round and tournament with an even-par 72 and followed with a 74 (+2) second-round performance. Her carded a 1-over par 73 final round score for a 219 (+3) three-day tally to finish tied for fourth place overall.
Nicholson finished ninth overall. The defending Mid-American Conference champion shot 74 (+2) on the first day and followed with a 77 (+5) the following. On the final day of competition, Nicholson climbed two spots on the leaderboard with an even-par 72 final round and 223 (+7) overall.
Dull was third in scoring for the Zips, tying for 28th overall with a 231 (+15) tournament total, while Wentworth and senior Velasco-Villanueva rounded out the team scoring with 243 (+27) and 250 (+34), respectively.
Next, the Zips will travel to Bloomington, Ind. For the Indiana Intercollegiate at the Indiana University Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9.
