Williamsburg, Va. – The Akron Zips women's golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard to claim the 2018 Kingsmill Intercollegiate team title with a 911 (+47), while junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) earned runner-up honors at the par-72, 6,025-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort on Tuesday.

The Zips finished the 54-hole event with a 311 (+23) final round to go along with the previous 302 (+14) and 298 (+10) scores. Akron placed four golfers in the Top 20 while all five Zips ranked in the Top 40.

Nicholson led the way for the Zips, climbing six spots to finish runner-up. She opened the final round tied for eighth overall with a 75-74 – 149 (+5) two-round total, and fired a field-low 1-over par 73 final round performance – St. John's Kaitleen Shee also carded a 73 (+1) final round and won medalist honors.

Nicholson completed the event with a second-best 36 pars and a fourth-best six birdies. In addition, she finished in the Top 4 in scoring on the par 3, 4, and 5 holes. Nicholson averaged 4.13 strokes on all par-4's during the event for a 4-over total, ranking second overall. She followed by ranking third in par-5 scoring with 4.92 strokes (-1) and fourth on the par-3's at 3.25 strokes (+3).

Freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) finished fifth overall with a 70-76-81 – 227 (+11) tournament total. Pikunas recorded a hole-in-one on the 157-yard, par-3 hole No. 5 on Monday and finished second overall in par-3 scoring. She posted a 3.08 stroke average and 1-over for the event. In addition, Pikunas ranked fourth overall with 34 total par scores.

The largest jump on the leaderboard came from freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio). Pearce leaped 24 spots on the leaderboard to finish 19th overall. She entered the final round tied for 43rd and carded a 74 (+2) score to finish with an 84-76-74 – 234 (+18) total. Pearce tied Nicholson for second overall with 36 par scores.

Also finishing 19th was senior Pader Her (Holt. Mich.). Her fired rounds of 79 (+7), 72 (E), and 83 (+11) en route to a 234 (+18) ledger. She finished fourth in par-4 scoring with a 4.23 average (+7).

Rounding out the Zips' scoring was sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.). Wentworth recorded a third-best seven birdies en route to a 38th place finish with a 78-77-88 – 243 (+27 ) score.

St. John's Shee fired rounds of 72 (E), 74 (+2), and 73 (+1) for a 3-over 219 total, leading St. John's to a runner-up finish with a 301-305-311 – 917 (+53).

The Zips will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31 at Arlington Country Club in Richmond, Ky. for the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
