Akron Seventh at Colonel Classic, Shah Lands in Top 10

Richmond, Ky. - The Akron Zips women's golf team finished the Colonel Classic tied for seventh with a 306-302-315 – 923 (+59) team total as freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) led Akron's scoring with a Top 10 finish on Saturday.
The Zips ended the 54-hole event in a stalemate with Mid-American Conference foe Ohio, 299-302-322 – 923 (+59), while Shah posted a 76 (+4) final round en route to a 221 (+5) tournament total. Shah finished tied for ninth overall after opening the event with 75 (+3) and 70 (-2) scores. For the tournament, Shah carded 39 pars and six birdies mixed with seven bogeys and two double bogeys.
Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) also posted a Top 20 performance, finishing tied at 20th overall with a 75-77-76 – 228 (+12) total. Nicholson recorded 27 par scores and nine birdies at the University Club in Arlington is a par-72 course the stretches 5,885 yards.
Senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) followed with a 77-75-86 – 238 (+22) tournament total, landing tied for 50th overall, while sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) rounded out the Zips' scoring with 239 (+23) and 246 (+30) totals. Pearce finished 54th (80-80-79 – 239) and Wentworth was 72nd (79-83-84 – 246).
Host Eastern Kentucky won the team title with a 13-stroke advantage, posting a 298-286-291 - 875 (+11) as runner-up Northern Illinois finished with a 287-301-300 - 888 (+24) team ledger.
EKU's Elsa Moberly earned individual medalist honors with a 4-under par tournament effort, 70-71-71 – 212, and four players were deadlocked at an even-par 216 for runner-up honors.
Akron will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9, at the Hoya Invitational hosted by Georgetown at The Members Club at Four Streams in Poolesville, Md.
