AKRON - The Akron women's golf team heads into their final tune-up before the 2019 Mid-American Conference Tournament as the Zips play the 2019 Hoya Invitational hosted by Georgetown on Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9 at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md.
"We are feeling better after the results from the Colonel Classic and we hope to keep the momentum going from practice this past week," Zips' head coach Jenny King said. " We've seen more improvements with our games, but I believe mentally we are turning the corner too. We are excited to play on a new course we've never seen and excited to compete one last chance before the MAC Championship."
The Members Club at Four Streams is a par-72 course the stretches 6,127 yards. The Zips enter the 54-hole event after posting four Top 5 finishes in the last six events, and just finished outside that mark against a tough field at the Colonel Classic (t-7th).
Akron will use the same lineup as senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) and freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) lead the Zips' scoring efforts with 75.41 and 77.36 stroke averages, respectively. Joining Nicholson and Shah are senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio), junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) and sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio).
Georgetown hosts the nine-team field tournament that includes Akron, Ball State, Bucknell, Lehigh, Quinnipiac, Richmond, St. John's and Mount St. Mary's (individuals only).
The Hoya Invitational is scheduled for two 18-hole rounds of golf on Monday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET. Tuesday's final round is also a shotgun start scheduled at 9 a.m. ET.
