Akron, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team will battle for the 2019 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships at Purgatory Golf Club on Friday-Sunday, April 19-21 in Noblesville, Ind.
The Par 72, 6,125-yard Purgatory Golf Club is known for its 130+ bunkers and tall prairie grass rough.
Â
"We are excited to be back at Purgatory this week for the MAC Championship," head coach Jenny King said. "This course is a great fit for our team, but we will need to be mentally tough this week due to the impending weather conditions. It should be a challenging test for all the competitors involved and it's a great way to see the best arise from our conference."
Â
Central Michigan hosts this year's championship event, which is set for three rounds beginning on Friday. The Zips will take the course in 10-minute intervals from 12:40 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. ET, starting on hole No. 1. Fans can follow all the action live via GolfStat Live Scoring.
Â
The Zips will be making their 11th appearance at the MAC Championship, the youngest overall program in the league. In the 10 previous appearances, Akron has reached the Top 5 six times, including a program-best tie for third place in 2009. Last season, Akron finished fourth overall with a 924 (+60) tournament total.
Â
Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) won the 2015 MAC individual title as a freshman with a 5-under par 211 tournament total, and will headline the Zips' starting five in her final MAC Championships appearance. Nicholson leads Akron's scoring with a 75.12 stroke average and four rounds of par or better. Earlier this season at the Fall Preview, Nicholson posted a ninth-place finish (+7, 74-73-76 - 223)

  Â
Junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) will assist the Zips' quest of becoming Mid-American Conference champions. Wentworth currently sports an 80.52 stroke average. During the Fall, Wentworth finished 12th overall at the Purgatory course with a 75-72-79 - 226 (+10).
Rounding out the Zips' starting five are sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India). Pearce is currently third in team scoring (79.00), while Shah is second (77.48). Pearce placed in the Top 25 in 3-of-9 events this season with 12, 15 and  place performances.
Â
Shah will be making her MAC Championships debut after a successful rookie campaign. She earned two MAC Golfer of the Week awards while placing in the Top 25 in 6-of-9 tournaments. Â
Fougberg was the first Akron golfer to post a sub-70 score with a 69 (-3) effort at Purgatory and went on to claim the 2015 Fall Preview championship with a 69-71-80 - 221 (+5) tournament total.
