AKRON, Ohio – For the second time in program history, the Akron women's golf team finished third overall at the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 23-24 at Silver Lake Country Club hosted by the Zips.

Akron fired a tournament-best 304 (+16) final round team score en route to a 920 (+56) tournament total at the par-72, 6,277-yard MAC season finale. The Zips opened the 54-hole event with rounds of 306 (+18) and 310 (+22) scores. The Zips made their 12th appearance at the MAC Championships and has reached the Top 5 on six occasions, including a tie for third-place in 2009 and a third-place finish in 2021. The third-place finish stands as Akron's best finish at a MAC Championship event.

Sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) led the Zips with a Top 5 showing, earning MAC All-Tournament Team honors with a 225 (+9) ledger. Shah carded rounds of 76 (+4), 74 (+2) and 75 (+3) with eight birdies, which was tied for second best of the 49-player field. She added 31 par scores. Shah finished fifth overall.

Freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron with a 229 (+13) total. David tallied a 2-over par, 74-stroke final round effort to go along with a 78 (+6) and 77 (+5) scores. She recorded 31 pars and seven birdies in her first MAC Championship event. After the tournament, the league released the postseason awards and David was named All-MAC Second Team.

Also placing in the Top 20 of the 2021 MAC Championships were freshman Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) and junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio). Hahn completed the tournament tied for 12th overall with a 75-81-76 – 232 (+16) tournament total while Pearce finished in a stalemate for 19th place with 78-80-79 – 237 (+21) scores.

Rounding out the season finale was sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio). Pikunas recorded a 28th-best 77-79-86 – 242 (+26) tally.

Kent State claimed the 2021 MAC Women's Golf Championship with an 878 (+14) tournament total on rounds of 298 (+8), 286 (-2) and 298 (+8). The Golden Flashes swept the top three individual positions as Caley McGinty was crowned 2021 Individual MAC Champion with a 4-under par 212-stroke performance with scores of 73 (+1), 69 (-3) and 70 (-2). KSU's Emily Price earned individual runner-up honors 72-70-75 – 217 (+1), while Chloe Salort tied for third overall 75-73-76 - 224 (+8). Northern Illinois' Lauren Ingle also placed third overall on the players' leaderboard while leading the Huskies to a runner-up team finish, 295-314-305 – 914 (+50).
