AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips baseball team fell 12-4 in the opening game of the series against the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Zips (13-32, 11-22 MAC) scored four runs on seven hits as senior Tate Wargo (Benld, Ill.) led Akron's offense with a 3-for-4 performance. Senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) added a two-run homerun in the sixth inning and a sacrifice flyout in the fourth for three RBI. Freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.), graduate Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and graduate Jackson Haas (Cincinnati, Ohio) each added hits, including a triple from Arrivo.

Ohio scored four runs in the first inning and added eight runs in the sixth while scattering 12 hits around the yard. The Bobcats' starting pitcher Edward Kutt IV earned the win, throwing eight complete innings while allowing four runs on seven hits. Akron senior Taed Heydinger (Bayfield, Colo.) earned the loss.
