Zips Fall To Ohio, 25-14

AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron football team fell to Ohio University, 25-14, on Friday afternoon at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field to conclude its season.
Prior to the game, Akron recognized 14 seniors in 0 QB D.J. Irons, Jr., 1 WR Daniel George, 1 DB K.J. Martin, 5 TE T.J. Banks, 8 DT Terray Jones, 9 DB Judson Tallandier, II, 13 QB Jeff Undercuffler, Jr., 16 DB Nate Thompson, 21 RB Drake Anderson, 21 DB Cameron Threatt, 27 RB Lorenzo Lingard, Jr., 60 OL Ben Frank, 92 DL Tyler Carter and 99 DL Devon Robinson.
Tahj Bullock (East Orange, N.J.) led all Zips rushers with 31 yards and one touchdown, picking up 5.2 yards per carry. Lorenzo Lingard (Orange City, Fla.) followed with 29 yards on the ground, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, as well as 54 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Akron also received a significant contribution from Jasaiah Gathings (Statesville, N.C.), who caught five passes for 43 yards and Daniel George (Fort Washington, Md.).
Defensively, Akron held up fairly well against the Ohio rushing attack, holding the Bobcats to 186 yards on the ground.
Akron LB Antavious Fish (Atlanta, Ga.) paced the defense with a career-high 16 takedowns with six solo tackles. DL Bennett Adler (Lakewood, Ohio) showed out for the Akron defense, recording five tackles, 2.5 TFL, and a career-high two sacks. Terray Jones (Madison, Fla.) added three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack.
The Bobcats improved to 9-3 on the year and 6-2 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips fell to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the in Mid-American Conference play.Â
How It Happened
Akron found itself down early 3-0 but responded to take a 7-3 lead with 9:53 remaining in the second quarter when Lingard caught a pass from Bullock for a 43-yard score. Another Zips score then extended the lead to 14-3 when Bullock ran for five yards for the touchdown. Akron didn't score again in the game and Ohio added 22 more points to finish off the scoring.
