AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips swimming and diving looks to get repeat as Mid-American Conference Champions and capture its ninth title in 10 years at the 2022-23 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Miami on Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 22-25 at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Admission and Attendance Guidelines

The Meet
The 2022-23 MAC Championships are scheduled to begin with the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:00 p.m. On Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 23-25, prelims are slated for 10:30 a.m. Finals on Thursday (Feb. 23) and Friday (Feb.24) will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m., while finals on Saturday are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.

Diving, 1-meter prelims are scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 23) at 12:30 p.m. with the finals starting at approximately 7:05 p.m. that evening. 3-meter diving prelims are slated for a 12:30 p.m. start time on Friday (Feb. 24) with the consolation finals commencing at 7:05 p.m. and the finals will be held on Saturday (Feb. 26) around 8 p.m.

Akron Zips
The Zips, under the direction of 10th-year head coach Brian Peresie, Akron looks to claim its ninth MAC title The Zips enter the MAC Championships with a 5-1 dual record, defeating Buffalo (165-134), Ball State (159-138), Bowling Green (184-76), Baldwin Wallace (251-37) and Mount Union (251-48) while falling to Ohio State (224-71). The Zips also posted three meet wins, claiming the Akron Zips Classic, Zippy Invitational and Magnus Cup Invitational while placing third at the Tim Welsh Classic hosted by Notre Dame. The Zips have earned multiple NCAA D1B qualifying times and NCAA Diving Zone qualifying performances. In addition, Abigail Daniel and Madelyn Gatrall earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors.

In 2021-22 the Zips bounced back from a silver medal showing the previous year. Akron won 12-of-19 events with seven silver and eight bronze, claiming 27 medals total en route to 896.5 points. The Zips claimed the title by a 277-point margin over runner-up Buffalo (619.5). The 896.5 total points stands as the most points scored in an eight-team field, eclipsing the previous record of 867 points set by the 2019 Akron squad. 2020-21 was the first time in seven years that the Zips women's swimming and diving program was outscored at the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship.
