Zips Beat Eastern Michigan 174-124 on Senior Day

AKRON, Ohio – On Friday night, the Akron Zips welcomed the Eastern Michigan Eagles into Ocasek Natatorium for a dual meet. Prior to the competition, the Zips celebrated their eight members of the Class of 2024.
Akron opened the meet going 1-2 in the 200 yard medley relay. Seniors Weronika Gorecka, Madeline Dyer, Rachel Sabotin, and Kaja Reinhardt touched first with a time of 1:43.21. Elle Couture and Joelle Vogelmann followed with second and third place respectively in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Rebecca Reid won the 200 yard freestyle by almost two seconds with her time of 1:52.84. Astrid Halvorsen took third in the event. Abigail Daniel and Julia Mauter had the two fastest times in the 100 yard backstroke before Sara Bozso and Claire Cox took the top two times in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Zips then had the four fastest times in the 200 yard butterfly with Rachel Sabotin (2:02.64) in first followed by Maggie Patterson (2:04.11), Grace Nuhfer (2:06.59), and Hannah Trainer (2:07.14). Aislinn Holder (23.58) and Callie Parkes (24.17) took first and third in the 50 yard freestyle sprint. Akron again had the four fastest times in the 100 yard freestyle with Holder winning her second race of the night at 52.09. Mauter touched at 52.21, Trainer at 52.89, and Reinhardt at 53.24 to round out the top finishers.
Gorecka won her first individual race of the night with a time of 2:00.36 in the 200 yard backstroke. Daniel won her second individual race in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:19.05. Bozso (2:19.64) and Dyer (2:20.72) finished third and fourth respectively. Couture took second place in the 500 yard freestyle for her second podium finish in a mid-distance race with a time of 5:00.70. Halvorsen came in third nine seconds later.
Sabotin had an individual win in the 100 yard butterfly and Patterson finished third in the 200 yard IM to close out the individual races. Akron closed out the win by taking the top three spots in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Sabotin, Reinhardt, Reid, and Gorecka finished at 3:28.21.
Off the diving boards, Laurel Smith took fourth in the 3-meter diving with a total of 249.80 points and fifth in the 1-meter event with a score of 234.60.
The Zips finished the night with 174 points compared to the Eagle 124 for their second dual meet win of the season.
