Zips in Second Place after Two Sessions of the Tim Welsh Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After the first two sessions of the Tim Welsh Classic on Friday, the Akron Zips swimming and diving team is in second place behind Ohio State.
Akron opened the meet with a third place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with Abigail Daniel, Rebecca Reid, Weronika Gorecka, and Rachel Sabotin. Later, Daniel would take second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.01.
Closing out the morning session was another bronze medal finish for a Zips relay team. This time Gorecka, Sara Bozso, Daniel, and Reid stopped the time of the 400 medley relay at 3:36.10. The evening session saw a 1:38.06 200 medley relay by Gorecka, Bozso, Daniel, and Sabotin.
Abigail Daniel earned the first event win for the Zips when she swam the 100 butterfly in 51.71 seconds. Sabotin took fourth at 53.34. Elle Couture brought another podium finish to Akron with her third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.40.
Gorecka earned an individual podium when she stopped the clock at 52.92 in the 100 backstroke for third place. Sabotin, Gorecka, Reid, and Daniel closed out Friday's competition with a fourth place finish in the 800 freestyle relay.
Heading into the third and final session of the Tim Welsh Classic on Saturday morning, Akron has accumulated 548 points and is in second place.

The Zips will resume the competition tomorrow at 11 am.
