Akron Earns Runner-Up at Rocket Classic, Four Zips Land in Top 25

Port Clinton, Ohio – The Akron golf team earned a runner-up finish at the 2024 Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo with a 909 (+45) tournament total as freshman Sohniya Chandra Mohan and junior Maisarah Hezri finished seventh overall while juniors Avery Wright (14th) and Emily Liptak (24th) completed the four Zips in the Top 25 at the Catawba Island Club (Par-72, 5,979 yards) on Tuesday.
Mohan and Hezri completed the 54-hole tournament with 10-over par 226 performances. Mohan carded rounds of 77 (+5), 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) with 29 par scores and eight birdies while Hezri registered 78 (+6), 71 (-1) and 77 (+5) scores with 35 pars and six birdies.
Wright followed with a team-best 75 (+3) final 18-hole round to go along with an 80 (8) and a 74 (+2) for a 229 (+13) finish. Liptak recorded rounds of 79 (+7), 78 (+6) and 76 (+4) for a 233 (+23) showing.
Rounding out the scoring for the Zips was junior Hridhika Vora (+23, 75-85-79 - 239) for 36th overall finish. In addition, sophomore Katrin Horn Danielsdottir registered a 89-90-82 – 261 (+45) as an individual.
The Zips are scheduled to return to the course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 21-22 to complete the Fall portion of the schedule at the Flyer Invitational hosted by Dayton at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
