Career Highs From Baker and Christodoulou Help Akron Defeat Miami (OH)

OXFORD, Ohio - Behind career nights from Lauren Baker and Emanouela Christodoulou, the Akron volleyball team fought back after dropping set one to secure a 3-1 win (23-25, 32-30, 25-18, 25-22) over the Miami RedHawks Saturday on the road at Millett Hall.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Baker, who registered a career-high 25 kills and added 14 digs along with hitting .389. Emanouela Christodoulou added a career-high 22 kills to help the offense while hitting .333 against the RedHawks. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in with 17 digs to go with four blocks from Karleighana Jones. Eliska Vytiskova contributed a double-double with 43 assists and 13 digs to help the Zips secure the road victory.
The conference win improved Akron's record to 8-11 overall and 4-3 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tight first set 25-23. Miami (OH) grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was knotted up four times before the RedHawks took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron responded to pick up a 32-30 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Zips rallied after being down as many as seven points at 21-14 to win the set. Akron grabbed the lead at 30-29 and held on for the victory, collecting 18 kills in the process. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron won again in set three to take a 2-1 match lead. The Zips took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-18 victory. Akron ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, seven points, to close out the set.
SET 4 | Akron closed out the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. The Zips took the lead for good at 21-20 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Zips win came in a stanza where 18 of their 25 points came via the kill.
