Zips Fall to Toledo

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team fell Thursday as the Toledo Rockets posted a 3-1 (18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 24-26) victory at the James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips attack was paced by Emanouela Christodoulou, who finished with 21 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .341, and by Delaney Gash, who had 11 while hitting .333. Defensively, Akron had three players reach double figures in digs, including 19 from Vanessa Del Real, 15 from Eliska Vytiskova, and 11 more from Lauren Baker. From the front row, Karleighana Jones contributed six blocks. Vytiskova recorded her team-leading 13th double-double after recording 41 assists to go with her 15 digs.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 8-12 overall and 4-4 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-18. Akron trailed by as many as seven points as Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Rockets took control.
SET 2 | Akron then lost the second set 25-23 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Zips rallied from a seven-point 22-15 deficit, but Toledo held on to take the set.
SET 3 | Akron avoided a sweep with a win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Zips took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-18. Akron led by eight points at 22-14 before finishing off the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Toledo attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't keep the momentum and lost in the fourth set 26-24 to drop the match. The Zips couldn't persevere past a furious Toledo rally, losing after leading by seven points at 9-2 earlier in the set.
