AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country squads return to competition this Friday (Oct. 4) traveling to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.

The women's Gold Division 6K is set to commence at 1:30 p.m. with the men's Gold Division 8K race slated to start at 2:15 p.m.

Joining the Zips in the Gold Division field will be Appalachian State (W), Ball State (W), Central Michigan (M), Cincinnati (W), Cleveland State (W), Dayton (M/W), Eastern Michigan (M), Green Bay (M/W), Idaho State (M/W), Indiana State (M/W), IU Indianapolis (M/W), Miami (W), Milwaukee (M/W), Northern Illinois (W), Pepperdine (M/W), Purdue-Fort Wayne (M/W), Saint Thomas (M/W), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (M/W), Valparaiso (W), Vanderbilt (M), Western Illinois (M/W), Western Michigan (W), Western Ontario (M), Windsor (M/W), Wisconsin-LaCrosse (M/W), Wright State (M) and Youngstown State (W).

Freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) crossed the line first in the men's 8K race in a career-best time of 24:29.50, while sophomore Mary Munga (Nyandarau, Kenya) led the Zips in the women's 6K race with a team-best time of 22:12.2.

Freshman Moses Lekokei (Kilgoris, Kenya) was next across the line for Akron in a time of 24:57, while rounding out the scoring efforts for the Zips was redshirt senior Heriberto Alvarez (Oswego, Ill.), freshman Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) and junior Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio) as the trio crossed the line in 26:55.6, 27:44.2 and 28:32.7, respectively.

Additionally, senior Justin Zapotoczny (Navarre, Ohio) and sophomore Majid Abuaun (Rocky River, Ohio) added times of 29:27.2 and 29:41.4.

Sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) was next across the line for the Akron women in a time of 22:19.2, while sophomore Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) and seniors Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.) and Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) concluded the scoring performances with times of 23:02.7, 23:23.2 and 23:52.6, respectively.

Registering times of 23:57.4, 23:58.4, 26:51.4 and 27:05.0 was senior Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio), freshman Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) and seniors Sophia Spencer (Medina, Ohio) and Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio).
