Zips Fall to Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team fell Tuesday as the Buffalo Bulls posted a four set (23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25) win at the James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips offense was paced by Emanouela Christodoulou, who finished with 17 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .350. Lauren Baker added 17 and Karleighana Jones chipped in with 10. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 15 while Eliska Vytiskova had 10 to go with her 45 assists to record a double-double. Jones contributed five blocks to go with her 10 kills.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell behind early, dropping a hard-fought first set 25-23. Buffalo grabbed the advantage for good at 24-23 in a set that was tied up six times before the Bulls took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron fired back from a first-set loss to take set two 25-23, evening the match at one set apiece. The Zips grabbed the set thanks to a solid performance on the attacking side. Akron registered a .410 attack percentage with 21 kills in the set win. The Zips rallied from down five at 18-13 to grab the win.
SET 3 | Akron lost the third set, putting the Zips in a 2-1 hole. The Zips rallied from a seven-point hole at 24-17, but Buffalo held on to win the set 25-22.
SET 4 | Akron then fell in the fourth set 25-18 to finish off the match. The Zips trailed by as many as 11 points as Buffalo grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 and Akron wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up just once before the Bulls took over.

Akron travels for a pair of road matches against Ball State on October 11, and Miami (OH) on October 12.
