Zips Sweep Kent State on Friday

KENT, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team totaled 50 kills on the way to a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) against the Kent State Golden Flashes Friday on the road at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
With the victory, Akron has defeated Kent State 3-0 in the past four meetings
The Zips were led by Emanouela Christodoulou's 14 kills while Lauren Baker recorded a 11 kill, 10 dig double-double. Ellen Kinnaird added nine kills to the Zips' total in the win. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real led the Zips in digs with 11 while Kinnaird added four blocks to her name.
The conference victory improved Akron's record to 9-16 overall and 5-8 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips took control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never looked back to win 25-18. Akron led by 12 points at 23-11 before finishing off the set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Akron put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-17 victory in set number two. The Zips took control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and never trailed. Akron led by as many as nine points at 15-6 before closing out the set, totaling 19 kills in the set.
SET 3 | Akron closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Zips scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-14 victory. Akron opened up as much as a 13 point lead at 19-6 before finishing off the set, totaling 17 kills along the way. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
