Akron Falls to Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. --The Akron men's basketball team got a 30-point performance from the bench, but fell 87-68 to the Saint Mary's Gaels on the road Tuesday.
The Zips (1-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Josiah Harris, who had 16 points. Amani Lyles tacked on 15 points from the bench and James Okonkwo added four points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Akron tallied 18 assists on 24 made field goals. Isaiah Gray and Shammah Scott's four assists paced the ZipsÂ
How It Happened
After falling behind 19-8, Akron went on a 6-0 run with 11:21 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Lyles, to narrow its deficit to 19-14. Saint Mary's answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Zips down 38-30 entering halftime.
Saint Mary's  kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 54-37 advantage before Akron went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Okonkwo's layup, to shrink the deficit to 54-42 with 13:10 to go in the contest. The Gaels responded and outscored the Zips the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 87-68. Akron shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 38 points.
