Zips Best SUNY Brockport at Home on Saturday

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron men's basketball team saw seven players score in double figures in a 101-48 victory over the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles at home Saturday.
The Zips (6-2) were led in scoring by Bowen Hardman, who had a career-high 20 points. Nate Johnson added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals and James Okonkwo added a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Tavari Johnson, Isaiah Gray, Seth Wilson and Shammah Scott all had 10 or more points in the win to bolster the Zips scoring.
Okonkwo pulled down five offensive rebounds to lead the Akron offense which grabbed 19 offensive boards and turned them into 15 second chance points. Marvin Musiime-Kamali recorded a career-high 11 rebounds with six coming on the offensive end.
Akron's defense held SUNY-Brockport to only 13 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 28.2 percent from the field.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 9-4 advantage, Akron went on a 14-0 run with 16:30 left in the first half to increase its lead to 23-4. The Zips then added 13 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 56-24 advantage. Akron got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 56 total points.
Following intermission, Akron kept widening that lead, expanding it to 89-43 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Evan Wilson's three, to grow the lead to 94-43 with 3:09 to go in the contest. The Zips kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 101-48 win. Akron shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 45 points.
