Zips Prepare for the Tim Welsh Classic

AKRON, Ohio -Â Â The Akron swimming and diving team gears up for a two-day battle on the campus of Notre Dame as the Zips compete in the Tim Welsh Classic.
The Zips will compete from January 24-25.
The first session on Friday begins at 10 a.m., and the second starts at 5 p.m. Saturday's session starts at 11 a.m.
Along with the Irish, Akron will face Ohio State, Indiana State and Wisconsin (diving only).
Akron was victorious in its past meet with an 181-118 win over Buffalo in a conference dual.
The Zips claimed gold in 11 of the 16 events.
Madelyn Gatrall was named the MAC Swimmer of the Week for her efforts at Buffalo which saw her claim gold in four events.
Gatrall was part of two relay teams that finished first. Leading off the 200-y Medley Relay team, the Zips finished with a time of 1:42.19. Madelyn also led off the 200-y Free Relay squad that finished with a time of 1:33.32. She also claimed gold in the 100-y Back (54.68) and 200-y Back (2:01.26).
Akron returns to the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium for its next meet when it battles Ball State in a conference dual meet on January 31 for a 5 p.m. start. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Zips.
