Akron Golf Defeats Western Illinois 6-0, Ties Murray State 3-3 in Match Play

Orlando Fla. – The Akron Zips golf team opened the 2025 Spring schedule with a 3-3 tie in match play against Murray State and turned around and swept Western Illinois 6-6 at the Rust Buster Match Play event hosted by Ball State and Murray State on Monday.
In the opening match at Kings Ridge Golf Course, juniors Hridhika Vora and Emily Liptak along with freshman Sohniya Chandra Mohan picked up wins. Vora defeated Murray State's Eliza Mae Kho 4&3 while collecting four birdies. Liptak claimed her match over Tina von Arx 3&1 and carded two birdies, while Chandra Mohan registered three birdies and a 1 UP win over Patti Patterson.
In the second match at the 6,016-yard Par-72 course, all six zips posted wins. Vora and junior Maisarah Hezri posted the largest margins of victory. Vora defeated Western Illinois' Sophia Thorne 7&5 with four birdies in 11 holes played. Hezri added a 6&5 victory over Gabriela Galindo Rubio with two birdies. Senior Daphne van Son posted a 4&2 win against Olivia McCrystal and recorded one birdie, while Chandra Mohan corralled three more birdies en route to a 1 UP win over Olivia Kerr. Both, junior Avery Wright and Liptak posted 2&1 wins.
Akron will be back on the course at 8 a.m. on Tuesday for the final match against Drake.
