Tourney Throws 8 Strikeouts in Akron's 3-1 Loss to Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -Â Dawson Tourney was dominant on Friday, punching out eight Jacksonville State hitters over four innings of relief work, but it was not enough as the Akron Zips lost to the Gamecocks 3-1.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Tourney went four innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and walking two for Akron (2-2).
Offensively, the Zips were paced by Jack Poist, who went 1-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI. Blake Bowen put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Evan Bottone also contributed for Akron by adding three walks.
Jared Schaeffer (0-1) got the start for the Zips and went four innings where he allowed two runs, both earned, on three hits while striking out and walking four batters in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Poist's RBI double with one out. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Jacksonville State added one run to their tally on the way to a 3-1 final.
