AKRON, Ohio - Student-athletes at The University of Akron combined to achieve a department-wide grade point average of 3.251 in the spring 2025 semester as part of an impressive overall GPA of 3.24 for the 2024-25 academic year.

Collectively, Akron student-athletes own a cumulative departmental GPA of 3.248, with nearly 67 percent of Zips maintaining an individual cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better at Akron.

The Zips registered 114 Academic All-Mid-American Conference selections across its 14 MAC-sponsored teams for the 2024-25 academic year.

Akron had 36 student-athletes honored with the MAC President's Award, along with 57 and 88 Zips named to the MAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and MAC Honor Roll, respectively.

For the spring semester of 2025, 14 of 16 Akron athletics teams achieved a semester grade point average of 3.00 or higher, led by women's soccer earning a program-best 3.814 team GPA for the semester. Additionally, rifle (3.6288), swimming and diving (3.6284), softball (3.526), women's cross country (3.462), lacrosse (3.455), women's basketball (3.365), volleyball (3.349), golf (3.272), women's track and field (3.21), men's soccer (3.19), baseball (3.183), men's cross country (3.106), men's basketball (3.02) each surpassed the 3.00 team GPA threshold registering marks.

For the 2024-25 academic year, 13 of the Zips' 16 squads garnered a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better, paced by a program-best 3.733 GPA from women's soccer. Additionally, swimming and diving (3.592), softball (3.508), lacrosse (3.481), rifle (3.48), women's cross country (3.471), golf (3.349), women's track and field (3.298), volleyball (3.278), baseball (3.27), women's basketball (3.225), men's soccer (3.117) and men's cross country (3.108) registered a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.

The excellence of the Zips in their academic studies was on display as nearly 69 percent of Akron's student-athletes, 294 of 427, earned an individual GPA for the term of 3.0 or better, while more than 45 percent garnered a GPA of 3.50 or higher. On the year, nearly 72 percent, 306 of Akron's 427 student-athletes, posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, with more than 48 percent registering a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Fifty-five of the Zips' student-athletes garnered a perfect 4.0 GPA for the spring semester, including women's soccer (13), softball (7), swimming and diving (6), rifle (4), women's basketball (4), lacrosse (3), women's track and field (3), baseball (3), football (2), men's soccer (2), men's track and field (3), volleyball (2), women's cross country (2) and men's basketball (1). For the academic year, 38 Zips owned a 4.0 cumulative GPA, with 23 student-athletes carrying an unblemished GPA overall at Akron.

Football paced the combined list with 36 Zips earning between a 3.0-3.99 for the spring semester and 44 for the 2024-25 academic year. They were followed by lacrosse (26 overall/27 for 2024-25), baseball (23/25), swimming and diving (23/24), men's soccer (18/20), women's track and field (18/18), women's soccer (17/25), softball (15/16), men's track and field (13/10), women's cross country (9/10), volleyball (9/11), men's basketball (8/8), women's basketball (8/7), rifle (7/10), men's cross country (6/7) and golf (4/6).
